Websites That  Reinforce Reading Skills

Actors read favorite stories out loud. Everything they say is captioned on the bottom.

http://tumblebooks.com/ This is not a free site, but it does have a free trial--and many schools have subscriptions you can access at home. There are hundreds of books here, read aloud with words highlighted so they can read along. There are also short quizzes We used this daily in the classroom. It's great for increasing fluency because after seeing a story several times I would play it with the sound off. The little ones are hysterical trying to sound like the reader. Then when they get their hands on the actual book their reading is fabulous. *subscriptions are not cheap, so check to see if your school district has it, or will get it.

Reading is Fundamental

Tons of favorite show sites to choose from. I use Between the Lions almost daily. The games, stories and catchy songs teach things such as blending chunks, digraphs, the Double E sound, Long Vowels, and The Two Sounds Made By C.

Sesame Street Website This is NOT just for preschoolers! My 1st graders love the silly videos that taught grade-level skills like the sounds "sh" and "ow", math skills, science, healthy habits and learning Spanish. You can search by subject and age. And the videos are very short--perfect for transitions or mini-rewards. There are also games and printables--perfect for working on those early skills at home. You are NEVER too old for Grover.

Sesame Street YouTube Channel You can subscribe to this and see all the cute, funny, educational videos they post.

Sesame Street ebooks This is not a free site. However, I did try it out when they had a free trial going
(I found out by following Sesame Street on Twitter Sesame Street on Twitter) and I can tell you it's awesome. There are lots of cute books, words are highlighted as they're read and they have an iPad version. Grover reading There's a Monster at the End of This Book had my kids laughing AND reading along with fluency! It's only $3.99 a month or $39.99 for a year. Well worth it.
